Peru is one of the top-20 largest coffee producers, and ranks fifth in the world in terms of arabica exports. The share of Peruvian coffee in the world market is 3%. Three well-known coffee growing areas located on the eastern slopes of the Andes are the Chanchamayo, the Amazonas and San Martin regions, as well as the southern highlands. Saint Ignacio, near the Ecuadorian border, is the central area of coffee plantations in northern Peru. The dominant coffee culture is Arabica. About 75% of the coffee growing area is located at an altitude of 1000 to 1800 meters.
